Lakewood Presbyterian Church is true to its name in that we are, in fact, a Presbyterian church.
This means that our church is governed by a team of elders (whom the New Testament in the original language refers to as presbuteroi) whose responsibility it is to both oversee the spiritual affairs of the local church, and provide leadership and direction in all its affairs. Elders, having been recognized for having the requisite gifts to fulfill this task, and for being men of high Christian character, are elected by the congregation, rather than appointed from any external body.
